New planning approvals in the East Riding include a new cricket facility in Hornsea.
The authority green-lit proposals for an all-weather cricket facility to be installed at the Hollis Recreational Ground in Hornsea. The approved application details plans for a net fencing structure that will span up to 33 metres in length and over 7 metres in width.
The facility will have a synthetic turf playing surface, allowing it to be used at all times of the year. Planning documents claim the facility will provide significant benefits to the local community, namely more opportunities for sports participation for young people.
Other planning applications that have been approved include plans to re-purpose part of the central promenade at Withernsea and introduce 28 beach huts.
The application detailed plans to put 28 beach huts on land between the Central Promenade and Memorial Gardens. Submitted documents explain the plans seek to bring the area into use as “a space for tourism and leisure” with the huts being available for both short-term rentals and long-term leaseholds. The huts themselves will have a wood-effect cladding finish and will come in four different pastel colours which will be rotated in a repeated sequence.
In Driffield the first and second floors of 61 Market Place will soon become apartments after the council approved plans requesting a change of use of the floors from office use to residential use. With the upper floors set to become three 2-bed apartments and one 1-bed apartment, the ground floor of the property, which was formerly a Barclays bank branch, will retain its commercial use. Plans explain that access to the apartments will be via a dedicated entrance on Market Place, positioned to the right-hand side of the property.
