Counting Down To Biggest Local Change in Five Decades

We are just over a year away from the biggest change to local government in North Yorkshire since the 1970s.

A new unitary authority will replace both the county and borough council in April 2023.

Plans for the transition are now underway, with one of the key issues being how services will be delivered on a local basis.

Andrew Rowe is Scarborough Borough Council's Head of Housing:

In April 2023, both Scarborough Borough Council and North Yorkshire County Council will cease to exist as they are replaced by a new unitary authority for the county.

One of the challenges in the transition is to figure out how local services will be delivered.
