There's concern in Whitby about the slow pace of new laws to help tackle issues around second home ownership and the number of holiday homes in seaside resorts.
The previous government outline plans in February to tackle the issues but Whitby Councillor Neil Swannick is concerned that little progress has been made.
Scarborough and Whitby MP - Alison Hume - says she wants to see the problems of second home ownership and the number of holiday homes in Scarborough and Whitby dealt with "at pace".
She says she wants to see legislation to tackle the problems bought forward quickly.
York Central MP - Rachael Maskell - has submitted a private members bill which will be debated in the house of commons in the coming months. The MP is calling for a bill to:
"make provision for the licensing of short-term let accommodation; to make provision about the marketing of short-term let accommodation; to make provision about planning permission in respect of short-term let accommodation; to require the Secretary of State to publish guidance about the management of short-term let accommodation; to make provision about small business rates relief for short-term let accommodation; and for connected purposes."
Thirteen Fridays in each parliamentary session are allocated to debating Private Members Bills, with the first Private Members’ Bill Friday taking place on 29 November 2024.
