Community Shop Opens In Eastfield

A brand new community shop, that is set to benefit the local people, has opened in Eastfield.

Sir Robert Goodwill MP and special guests from the community, joined the UK's target manufacturer of frozen potato products, McCain Foods, and Community Shop, an award-winning social enterprise that redistributes surplus food and household products, to officially open the doors to their new shop in Eastfield.

During the opening event, Tracy Reeves and Chris Parsons from the Eastfield Legacy Centre cut the ribbon to officially open the store. 

Jillian Moffatt is McCain’s Regional President of GB&I.

The new Eastfield store is the first to open in North Yorkshire and will support around 750 people in the local community.

The store will sell high-quality products which are perfectly good to eat or use that have been donated by major retailers, brands and manufacturers. These products have been deemed ‘surplus’ and may have otherwise gone to waste.

Joseph Chow is from the project and he says that the profits made will be reinvested into the local community.

The store is located Eastfield Community Centre, High Street, Scarborough, YO11 3LJ and is open from 09:00 to 16:45 weekdays and 09:00 to 14:45 on Saturday with the shop closed on Sunday's.

The store will also house a community kitchen, offering low-cost and wholesome hot meals, with children eating free every day. Community Shop Eastfield will operate on a free membership basis and be open to anyone who lives locally, receives welfare support and is motivated to make a positive change to their lives.
