A large 75-bed care home could be constructed in Scarborough if plans are approved by North Yorkshire Council.
Yorkare Homes wants to build a 75-bed care home on the vacant former site of Scarborough RUFC in Scalby Road, around 1.8 miles north west of Scarborough town centre.
The two-and-a-half-storey home would provide 51 residential care bedrooms and 24 dementia bedrooms, along with community rooms, staff rooms, and service rooms.
A 32-space car park, including four EV chargers, and cycle parking would also be provided, with access off Old Rugby Way.
The care home would have level access into the building for the mobility impaired, as well as to all garden areas and terraces.
“Within the building, all floor levels are kept flat and level throughout, and two lifts provide access between all floors, designed to accommodate wheelchairs, etc,” according to plans.

The proposed site used to be the home of Scarborough RUFC until 2009, when the club moved.
The character of the wider area is “predominantly residential, interspersed with commercial uses along Scalby Road, which is a main transport route”.
Proposals include creating a badger sett and wildlife enhancement area to both protect and encourage local wildlife, while new planting would take place and private gardens would be formed for use by residents.
Yorkare Homes Ltd said it has been working in the care industry for more than 30 years and has built up a strong relationship with numerous councils’ social services departments.
“As the population ages, the need for high-standard care accommodation grows and the company aims to meet some of these needs,” it said.

“The design of the new building will incorporate sustainable construction methods, and the building will operate utilising the latest sustainable plant and operational measures, including solar panels and air source heat pumps,” the plans state.
North Yorkshire Council has not set a date for deciding on the proposal which is open to representations from members of the public.
