A petition asking for improvements to a road junction near Filey has been signed by over 750 people.
The junction of the A165 and A1039 towards Muston has seen a number of collisions resulting in serious injuries and one fatality.
Tom Rutt has started the petition calling on the local councils to take action.
He says the current layout isn't ideal.
Tom says the junction is on a bend and needs additional safety measures.
The petition on Change.org says the aim is to:
"Ask the relevant authorities to install traffic calming measures at the junction near Harry’s Diner, in between Filey and Muston in North Yorkshire, to prevent further death and injury.
In the past year, 1 person has lost their life at the junction near Harry’s Diner, in between Filey and Muston in North Yorkshire.
Install traffic calming measures like traffic lights, that will help stop vehicles travelling at high speeds past the junction and will hopefully prevent further deaths."
Over 750 people have now signed the petition and given their reasons for wanting changes to be made.
Sandra said:
"Something needs to change at this junction ..... the main road is driven along too fast by some drivers. It's a hard junction to pull out off the side road."
Donna added:
"Traffic comes speeding down this road pedestrian don't have a chance of crossing safely"
Rachel said:
"The junction is a death trap and I use it everyday it is very difficult to cross all year round and even worse during the summer months."
Carole also thinks the junction needs improvement:
"It is such a dangerous junction to get out of traffic lights would save lives"
Lynda agrees that something needs to be done:
"this junction is a nightmare. The volume of traffic makes it nigh on impossible to join the main carriageway."
