Workplaces are being thanked for their support for the big day of fundraising on the Yorkshire Coast.
Yesterday's Bring a Pound Work Day event on the Yorkshire Coast raised over five thousand pounds for Saint Catherine's hospice.
Hundreds of local workplaces took part in the day of fundraising.
Susan Stephenson from Saint Catherine's says it was an amazing day.
"It's one of our favourite things really to be out there and able to meet all these people that are making donations. 'cause they can tell us why they want to support and we can tell them more about Saint Catherine's and what we are doing and what might be new or what might have changed since they last heard from us.
So it is just a really positive experience, I think for everybody.
And I think people are so keen to help, aren't they? And sometimes people think, oh , you know, we've only brought in a pound each, but all those pounds add up to thousands of pounds when you look at it and that makes so much difference for us here with patient care because we do only get a third of our funding from the government, all the other funding has to be fund-raised, so every single pound does make a difference "
The event made a return to the Yorkshire Coast to help mark Saint Catherine's 40th anniversary year. Hundreds of local workplaces signed up to take part in the day with volunteers from Saint Catherine's, Scarborough Business Ambassadors and This is the Coast then taking to the roads to collect the coins.
Susan says it was a real community fundraising effort.
"It's been amazing. We've enjoyed it so much. It's just such a lovely day. It is really exciting to go and see everybody and see how much they've collected and chat to people, hear about how they've raised the money, hear about what the links are with St Catherine's, going into schools where the kids might have brought in a pound or, going to cafes where they've saved up their tips for us. It's just, so many stories and just so many kind people out there. I think.
We do cover such a big area, we cover from Whitby all the way into Ryedale, towards Helmsley, down towards Bridlington, Driffield and Filey, it's about 1600 square miles actually.
To have that support across the whole area does really mean such a lot to us ."
Yesterday's activity raised an on the day total of £5,164 with many workplaces saying there is more to come over the coming days.
