A crucial final 10 games in the Northern Premier League East began with three points last week, and the Seasiders now look to build on the win as they travel to Pontefract Collieries today.
It was a much needed victory last time out for Bridlington at the Mounting Systems Stadium, who went 3-0 up inside the opening half an hour against Ashington AFC.
The visitors did pull one back early into the second half through Benjamin Sampson, though the Seasiders’ defence held strong as the game finished 3-1.
After the game, assistant manager Andy Norfolk said:
“We know the next 9 games are important to us.”
“I think it was a quiet second half and we did most of the work in the first half.”
Other results somewhat went the way of Bridlington, with Sherwood Colliery and Liversedge FC suffering defeats.
However, Heaton Stannington picked up an excellent point on the road, drawing 0-0 with 2nd placed Emley AFC. Brighouse Town also knocked North Ferriby out of the playoffs, winning 1-0 at the Dransfield Stadium.
Ultimately, the Seasiders did move closer to survival, up two places to 19th, one place and three points from safety.
With the bottom of the table incredibly congested, Pontefract sit five places, but only six points above the Seasiders.
They’re on a decent run of form, currently on a six game unbeaten streak, during which Mikey Dunn found his shooting boots, scoring seven goals, having only netted one goal at the start of the season prior.
The Colls’ with their last defeat coming in a 4-0 thumping against Bradford Park Avenue on 21st January.
Whilst Bridlington get a full week to rest and prepare, their first week without a midweek game for a while, Pontefract have to take on league-leaders Cleethorpes Town on Tuesday evening.
Earlier in the season, Pontefract picked up a 2-0 victory over the Seasiders, in a game where goalkeeper Sebastian Malkowski and manager Denny Ingram were sent off at half time for dissent.
With no substitute goalkeeper named. Pete Davidson was forced to go in goal, and actually kept a clean sheet in the second half.
