Bridlington School and Headlands School are to explore forming a joint academy.
In a letter to parents the schools say that the two governing bodies have passed a resolution to explore conversion to academy status as a partnership.
A letter from the Head Teacher and Chair of Governors at Brislington School says:
"In effect, what this means is that Governors have recognised the opportunities that a potential Multi Academy Trust centred around Bridlington and focused on education within Bridlington can bring to the town both now and for a positive sustainable future. This resolution is merely the start of a long process of due diligence and consultation with you our community which will be ongoing as we journey together in this project over the coming months.
I appreciate that any form of change can bring with it questions, consequently further details will be shared in the coming weeks and months. This will give me a chance to share detail of the rationale for the decision to further explore this exciting opportunity for Bridlington and answer questions that our parents and carers will have.
We will soon be compiling a Frequently Asked Questions document for parents and will open an email opportunity for you to share any questions you may have as we progress. In addition, in the summer term there will be a face to face meeting with parents, when we can all meet safely together. This letter is merely an introduction to the process but I, alongside the Governing Body, felt it was important to share our developments with you, our parents, carers and community partners, as quickly as possible."
In Headlands School's weekly newsletter Headteacher, Mrs Bone, said:
"One key question which has arisen in the last few days, which i feel needs addressing here as both students and parents have asked the question is "will my child now be taught at Bridlington School, or vice versa (if the child currently attends Bridlington School)".
The simple answer is no, your child will continue to be taught at the school they are registered with and on roll at."
