A new Wellbeing Hub in Bridlington, dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of people with a learning disability, will host an open day on Friday.
Local residents will have the opportunity to view the facilities and chat to organisations providing support, help and advice to the learning disability community.
Created within The Medical Centre, Station Avenue, Bridlington the Hub will offer a dedicated, easy to use, calm and welcoming space for medically vulnerable patients who need extra support to understand how to look after their health and stay healthy.
Dr Priya Reddy, General Practitioner and PCN Clinical Director, commenting on the new Wellbeing Hub said:
“People with learning disabilities have a much greater tendency to develop both physical and mental health problems, compared with the general population. They are also more likely to find it difficult to describe what is wrong with them which makes it harder for health care workers to identify their health needs.
“Our Wellbeing Hub has specially trained staff who can better understand the needs of our learning disability community. It offers annual health checks, which are essential for every person aged 14 and over with a learning disability. In addition, staff at the Hub not only provide advice, support, and information on where to go for help, but also guidance on how people with a learning disability can improve their physical and mental health.”
The Hub will have trained staff, including a Social Prescriber to help provide not just annual health checks, but a comprehensive, long-term look at the health and wellbeing of their patients, with useful information in easy read format.
People are invited to come along to the open day which will initially take place at Bridlington Crown Buildings, Quay Road, Bridlington. People can chat with local partner organisations who will be available to showcase what support they can offer the learning disability community and listen to patient stories on how they have benefited from the Hub. After lunch, between 1:30 – 3:00pm people will be escorted to The Medical Centre, Station Road to have a tour of the medical centre and the Wellbeing Hub.
Doors will open at 10am on Friday 7 October at the Crown Buildings for registration with presentations from 10:30am with lunch / networking at 12:30pm, followed by the tour.
