East Riding Council is seeking to improve the energy efficiency of it's housing stock with some serious make overs.
Fuel Poverty in the East Riding is lower than the Yorkshire Average.
Just under 15 percent of all households are in fuel poverty in the East Riding compared to 17.5 percent across the region.
East Riding Council says it wants to reduce that number further.
Cabinet Member for Housing - Councillor Gary McMaster - says making improvements to the councils own social housing stock will help.
The council is aiming for all its dwellings to achieve an energy efficiency rating of C or above by 2035. This will be achieved by targeting properties that are rated D or below for works including new roofing, replacing windows & doors, and checking the insulation levels and topping up where necessary.
But the efforts to improve the energy efficiency of social housing in the East Riding will also lead to the demolition of some properties this year.
Councillor Gary McMaster- says that while many properties can have their energy rating improved by installing LED lights or adding insulation, other older properties need more drastic measures.
The council says it is planning to visit all council housing properties in the next 3 years to ensure that the data held on energy efficiency is current.
