Brid Held In All-Yorkshire Stalemate

Tuesday, 20 August 2024 22:13

By Alexander Fynn with Andrew Snaith

Bridlington Town had to settle for a draw on a frustrating night at the Mounting Systems Stadium.

Bridlington Town and Liversedge shared the points after a goalless draw at the Mounting Systems Stadium, and back-to-back draws in weekdays for the Seasiders.

Albeit, Bridlington Town did pick up their first clean sheet of the season as Sebastian Malkowski kept the Seasiders in the game following some remarkable saves.

The visitors had the first chance of the match in the 4th minute with Jack Crook attempting a shot, but it went narrowly over the bar. Down at the other end in the 11th minute, Michael Coulson had a shot of his own but the same result as previous: over the bar.

In the 18th minute Omar Sanyang came the closest to breaking the deadlock for Liversedge with a curling shot, but Malkowski parried it away to go for the first corner of the match. 11 minutes later, Sanyang tried to put a cross in, but the cross turned into a shot forcing Malkowski to put the ball out for a corner.

The second half was pretty even. 22 minutes into the half, a corner came in from Freddie Allen for Benn Lewis whose looping header went just over the crossbar. Sanyang looked threatening again as he went on a counterattack, but his shot  fired just wide. With 20 minutes to go Malkowski pulled off a brilliant double save with shots from Jaanal Gordon and Omar Sanyang to keep the Seasiders in the game.

Sanyang decided to have a long range shot in the 81st minute, but he fired it wide. Liversedge looked more threatening to score late in the game but in the end the points were shared.

It's now back to back draws with West Yorkshire opposition, after last Wednesday's 1-1 at Brighouse.

Brid are back in action on Saturday, at Derbyshire outfit Belper Town, in NPL East, with a 3pm kick-off.
