A blueprint for Scarborough Borough Council’s future priorities, how it will work and the services it will provide has been agreed by councillors
Members of Scarborough Borough Council met yesterday to discuss and vote on a new corporate plan.
For the first time in several years, the plan has been developed with input from communities, residents and businesses across the borough.
Hundreds of people took part in a consultation at the beginning of this year when the council asked for their views on what the priorities should be for the borough.
The council says that the survey, workshops, drop-in sessions and focus groups have resulted in a plan to build a better borough and provide brighter futures for everyone who lives and works in the borough.
The feedback people gave showed the most important resident issues were:
- clean streets,
- managing anti-social behaviour,
- public toilets,
- clean beaches
- and tackling things like fly-tipping and littering.
The resulting corporate plan has been divided into four main themes.
Better Lives covers happy, healthy and active people, how communities can thrive and be engaged and how to create a safe borough.
Better Homes is focussed on providing more good quality housing for people who want to rent or buy them.
Better Places will mean a cleaner and greener borough, which the council says will be attractive and something residents can be proud of. It aims to ensure the Borough has vibrant town centres, culture and heritage.
Brighter Futures covers economic generation, which benefits everyone and making sure the borough is as connected as it can be, virtually and in reality.
The plan acknowledges the challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic and the role the council has to play in driving the recovery.
It also sets out what residents can expect from the council in future and the role they need to play to ensure a better borough can be built.
Cllr Steve Siddons, Leader of Scarborough Borough Council, said:
“I’d like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation.
“Whether you completed the survey or attended an engagement session, your input and feedback has been central to the development of this plan.
“Your key priorities have become our key priorities and the plan is as much your plan as it ours.
“I want our borough to be a place where we are all proud to live and work and where communities flourish.
“Our ambitions are clear and achievable and I am delighted full council has endorsed this work.”
