Blues Fifth After New Year Victory

Whitby Town returned to the NPL Premier's top five after a superb second-half display on New Year's Day.

It was heavy going with the Towbar Express Stadium pitch passing an inspection on the morning of the 3-0 win over Ilkeston.

After a goal-less first half in which both sides clipped the woodwork, Whitby led on 58 minutes when skipper Danny Rowe, up from the back, flicked home from point blank range. Junior Mondal made it two, four minutes later.

Substitute Stephen Walker netted his first Blues goal to delight most of the 1,028 crowd.

Manager Nathan Haslam told Whitby Town TV it was a hard-fought victory:

Goalkeeper Shane Bland was celebrating both a clean sheet and his 400th appearance for Town, he told Whitby Town TV it was heavy going:

Whitby are next in action on Saturday away at promotion rivals Worksop Town.
