Firms in the masts transmission area will pick up much of the work.
The permanent replacement for the Bilsdale TV mast is going to be completed in less than a year.
Transmission Company Arqiva say work to build the mast is underway with much of the work going to firms based in the area served by the mast.
Arqiva chief executive Paul Donovan said the firm was striving to cut the time in half of what would normally be expected to replace such a towering structure on one of the country’s most environmentally sensitive sites at Bilsdale on the North York Moors.

Arqiva is expecting the final of five investigations, from the firm’s insurance company, into the cause of the fire which destroyed the previous mast in August last year to be completed in the next two weeks.
Mr Donovan said:
“I’m sure will be of great interest to everybody. It’s been a source of frustration for us that it has taken so long, but we had to have due process around something as significant as this.”
Arqiva say they have signed contracts to build the mast with a number of firms based in the Bilsdale transmission area.
A major part of the project to build a new mast is the specialist fabrication of the steel which will be undertaken by North Yorkshire based Severfield plc.
Severfield is one of the UK’s leading structural steel experts and has worked on iconic projects including the 2012 Olympic Stadium, Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, Manchester and Birmingham railway stations and The London Shard.

“The permanent, replacement mast will eventually see full TV and radio services restored to homes across the region. The build is both an enormous investment and one of the most challenging engineering projects in the UK this year. The new mast will reach almost the height of The Shard in London, making it one of the country’s tallest structures.
“It is extremely important that the North Yorkshire economy benefits from the construction of the new Bilsdale Mast, and we have ensured that our main contractor engaged regional partners, like Severfield, when possible.
“The expert fabrication of the steel is of critical importance to the project and represents a very large proportion of our financial commitment. I am delighted that a respected and local company, Severfield, will be undertaking this.”
