Autism services have been boosted in North Yorkshire.
That's according to Councillor Michael Harrison.
He says there are challenges but there are positives too:
" We have made progress. Our priority is on practical delivery of our agreed actions, two that I draw attention to.
"For example, we're expanding supported employment services, which I think will make a big difference for people with specific needs. And executive recently approved investment in new housing, supported housing options, which again, will make a huge difference if we can get those on the ground.
"In terms of a separate autism partnership board, I'm afraid I'm not willing to commit to establishing a separate board. The mental health and autism partnership board is actually the mental health people with learning disabilities and neurodiversity board."
He says more is set to happen this month:
"There are separate networks and meetings taking place related to the strategy. And personally, I'm comfortable with Health Watcher's role here. They do attend a number of community voice networks and interest groups, including with the Autism community. I genuinely want to focus more on what this council can do practically within the financial envelope.
"We have influencing partners on things that, that they can do, or things that we can do on our own rather than having more meetings to talk about the problems and challenges that we are fully aware of in terms of named individuals within North Yorkshire. We do have specific offices with responsibility for commissioning of care and support services for autism from January."
