The 15th Scarborough Science and Engineering week has seen over three thousand local youngsters visit Scarborough spa to learn about some of the science and engineering firms based on the Yorkshire Coast.
Local schools have been organising visits to the event enabling their students to see how STEM subjects like science and maths are being used by local firms and to explore some of the future career opportunities that are available locally.

Jenna Marsh from Schneider Electric spoke to This is the Coast about the technology they use and the new opportunities that will be available at their soon to be expanded operation in Scarborough.
Ian Butterworth from Humber Marine and Renewables says there are huge opportunities to be had in the off-shore wind industry as well as other industry's based around clean energy, he thinks the Yorkshire Coast is well placed to benefit from that.
Information security is a massive growth area, with many more jobs expected to be created in the sector in the coming years.
North Yorkshire Council hosts the National Trading Standards eCrime Unit, Mike Andrews heads the unit and says there is a growing need for digital security specialists.

The event also saw a demonstration from Scarborough UTC's formula one in schools team. They will be competing in the world finals in Saudi Arabia next month.

Apprentices from McCain foods were also at the event to meet with local students and talk about the benefits of apprenticeships.
More than 35 local, regional, and national employers and training and education organisations have been exhibiting at the Spa. Since the inaugural event, it has attracted more than 42,000 students, inspiring a future workforce into skill-based careers covering science, design, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
