Officers investigating the death of a man in Scarborough on Saturday night have arrested a suspect.
On Sunday evening North Yorkshire Police said:
"A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at this time.
Enquiries are ongoing, and police are particularly appealing for a crucial witness who was at the scene to come forward"
Officers attended a report of an assault on Newborough shortly after 9pm on Saturday 17 September.
The victim, a man in his 50s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he has since sadly died.
A murder investigation is underway, and officers are continuing to urge anyone who was in the area around Newborough or Eastborough at about 9pm on Saturday night to come forward.
They are also asking residents and businesses to check if CCTV and dashcam systems have any relevant footage, and contact police straight away if so.
