Work to improve the right-hand turn from the A171 to Egton will start on Monday, involving the creation of a permanent filter lane to enhance the safety of the junction.
Work on the Egton junction will start on Monday 12th April and is expected to take approximately ten weeks to complete. Three-way temporary traffic lights will be operational for most of this time, operating from Monday to Friday between the hours of 7.00am and 7.00pm.
The works are proceeding as part of the planning permission for Anglo American's Woodsmith Project, the new polyhalite mine being built off the B1416 near Sneaton. The company is building a 23-mile tunnel to transport the polyhalite ore to a processing facility on Teesside, and has planning permission to construct an access shaft at Lady Cross Plantation, a short distance from the junction.
"We are not yet certain whether we will require a shaft at the Lady Cross site," said Gareth Edmunds, External Affairs Director for Anglo American.
"It is likely that we will undertake ground investigation works later in the year to help inform the decision on how to proceed. We will provide updates as our plans progress."
The company is also creating a new entrance to its site at Lady Cross Plantation. That work will start on 19 April, or shortly after, and take up to twelve weeks
